Friday 15th June till
 Sunday 8th July

Main Free outdoor Event Saturday 7th July

Holloway in North London lights up each July with the annual Holloway Arts Festival, a dramatic eclectic array of art forms brought together from both local and international sources and produced by The Rowan Arts Project.  It is a celebration of Holloway's rich and diverse urban lifestyles and culture.  Works have been commissioned by The Rowan Arts Project leading to pioneering workshops being run within the local community and culminating in new productions and art forms.  There is something to delight and inspire everyone - young and old, local and from farther afield and many events are free. The festival takes place in local community settings including Whittington Park, Hargrave School, The Metropolitan University, North Library, St John the Evangelist Church.

In Whitington Park on 7th July will be a workshops and performanes of all types: dance, art, music.  Anna Boggon, local visual artist who has exhibited internationally, is exploring with a group of Islington youngsters a variety of art forms including sculpture, painting and mixed media. Their work entitled Art Games is a key project within the festival.  The acclaimed Whittington Grand, produced by Eudemonic for The Rowan Arts Project last year returns in 2007 to develop the next chapter of the story with twenty children from Islington who will perform the work.  Eudemonic will also work closely with the Holloway community.  The result will be an engrossing, fascinating experience produced by the entire community.

Inspiring and wacky street theatre comes from dotComedy - the passing public will at first think it's real, but on closer examination will start to notice it is not what it seems... Caroline Jones is working with local schools to design and make costumes for the Funky Junk Carnival Procession.  Age Concern are working with Sadler's Wells to put on a dance programme called 'Let's Dance' in Islington in 2007.  This will be showcased at the Holloway Arts Festival with performances by their over 60's dance groups and workshops.  International artists Colombian Folk band Bombele Orchestra and La Chica Latina will be performing their popular show.  The delightful harmonies of The Pink Singers, London's lesbian and gay choir will resonate across the Festival as part of the Sing Thing, whilst aspiring Islington artists from the unique London Urban Collective rap their way into our hearts and souls.

Music events abound from classical to folk and rap.  Classic pianist, Mark Schwartzentruber is inspiring children in a family-centred event on the afternoon of Saturday 30 June followed by an evening of contemporary classical music at a local church.

Film, literature and visual arts all play key roles in the Holloway Arts Festival. Reel Islington is a film and video festival, a first for this year.  The film festival focuses on aspects of life in North Holloway, an area of high deprivation and with over 100 languages spoken.  It will premier Justine Gordon Smith’s new film PARK  - Amidst the urban sprawl,  Elthorne Park is a haven – Through the cycle of the four seasons PARK gets close to the mix of eccentrics, degenerates, delinquents and every day people who share it. Josephine hates the city but loves the wildlife; Gerry will forgive, but never forget; Bernie finds the courage deep inside himself to love and be loved. Told through personal vignettes, Park gives a fascinating insight into modern British urban culture and the personal and collective challenges people face.

Connecting Conversations introduces an author who will discuss their work with a psychoanalyst - organised in partnership with The Metropolitan University, The Institute of Psychoanalysis and The Freud Museum with Lionel Shriver in conversation with Angela Joyce on Friday 15th June 2007 at The Resource Centre at 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6RA (NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE)

The Holloway Arts Festival, its inspiring, dramatic, pioneering - from the community, for the community.  Be there!
